Soho is a Living National Treasure of Japan. Signed underneath: Made by Sōhō
Born to a farming family in Kuroiso City, Tochigi Prefecture, Katsushiro Sōhō began learning bamboo weaving in 1949 and became an independent artist six years later. It was not until 1968 that he moved away from commercial work and embarked on a period of study under Saitō Bunseki, which enabled him to start exploring the artistic potential of his chosen medium. He was named a Living National Treasure in 2005.
