Signed at left Mugaku, Chief Abbot of Myōshinji, with a kaō and seals "Authentic lineage of the Rinzai", "seal of Mugaku", and Bun'eki
Written in three lines of four, three, and one character respectively, the eight-character calligraphy under the ensō circle reads "In Heaven and on Earth, Only I Am Worthy of Respect", the first words uttered by the Buddha when he emerged from the side of his mother Maya and took seven steps forward, pointing to heaven with his right hand and earth with his left.
A prominent Zen priest, in 1878 Mugaku Bun'eki attained the title Daikyōshō and became Chief Abbott of Myōshinji Temple; he retired to Zuisenji Temple in Owari Province in 1883.
