Signed Shinjō with three seals, the first at top right an undeciphered dharmic succession seal including the character Zen, the second and third below the signature Genmyō and Shinjōsō (Shinjō the Venerable)
A native of Tanabe in Kii Province, Shinjō Genmyō was a priest of the Rinzai Zen sect. After his first enlightenment he settled at the Kenchōji in Kamakura, transferring in 1832 to the Nanzenji Temple in Kyoto.
Signed Shinjō with three seals, the first at top right an undeciphered dharmic succession seal including the character Zen, the second and third below the signature Genmyō and Shinjōsō (Shinjō the Venerable)
