A rounded rectangular tebako (accessory box) with interior hanging tray, the exterior finished in polished black lacquer and decorated in raised gold, silver, and colored takamaki-e with a dense design of Japanese azalea, a Japanese white-eye perched on one of the stems; the interior with a design of wild mountain vine, in black and gold lacquer on a gold nashiji background, a grasshopper resting on one of the leaves; the base in gold nashiji, the rims in silver. Signed on the base with gold hiramaki-e characters: Reimei saku (Made by Reimei).
The box comes with the original fitted kiri-wood tomobako storage box, which has an inscription inside dated to 1957 and a label of the Wako Department Store, Ginza, Tokyo.
A native of Aizu, Utagawa Remei had his work accepted by the Shinbunten national art exhibition in 1937, 1939, 1940, 1941, and 1946
