The Kyoto based porcelain artist Fukami Sueharu is one of the most highly regarded sculptors working in porcelain today. His elegant, flawless sculptures are abstract, horizontally or vertically elongated, and though made of materials from the earth, seem impossibly light. Few artists of the past 100 years – among them would be Constantin Brancusi – have so successfully explored the interplay between tangible material and surrounding space. Fukami’s sculptures are in the collections of 60 museums worldwide.
