Golden Treasures: Japanese Gold Lacquer Boxes
Past exhibitions exhibition
Overview
We are delighted to announce our gallery exhibition of exceptional Japanese gold-lacquer boxes dating from the 18th century to the present.
The masterworks in our exhibition are all examples of maki-e, which literally means "sprinkled pictures" and refers to the technique of sprinkling powders of gold and silver onto wet lacquer, a distinctly Japanese tradition that developed in the Heian Period (794 – 1185).
The exhibition will be on view by appointment in our gallery November 22, 2021 - January 31, 2022.
