JADA 2015: An Exhibition by the Japanese Art Dealers Association

14 - 16 March 2015
Overview

Fletcher-Sinclair Mansion/ Ukrainian Institute of America, 2 East 79th Street, New York

JADA 2015: An Exhibition by the Japanese Art Dealers Association of New York  will be held at the Ukrainian Institute of America from Saturday March 14 through Monday March 16. As in previous years, the emphasis is on the traditional arts of Japan, from prehistoric times through the early 20th century.

We will be showing Stations along the Tokaido Road, a rare pair of six-panel folding screens depicting the many castles and towns that served as stations along the highway connecting Edo with the old capital of Kyoto. Painted in ink, mineral colors, gofun (white powdered sea shells), and gold on paper, the screens are outstanding for their detailed, almost cartographic, depiction and lively vignettes of the trials and pleasures of pre-modern Japan's main highway. Other works that we will exhibit at JADA's collaborative exhibition include gold-lacquer boxes and scroll paintings.
